This is a wonderful phrase attributed to the well known management consultant and writer Peter Drucker. To be completely clear, this doesn’t mean that strategy is unimportant, no no! Rather, that a powerful and united culture is a sure-fire way to ensuring organisational success and employee engagement.

As we look forward to all that 2019 holds for EasyPeasy from a business point of view, we also have our fingers firmly on the pulse of our culture and identifying what this vision will look like.
Steph, our new Community Manager at EasyPeasy HQ, has a firm belief that cultivating a strong and empowered Community doesn’t stop with our Practitioners and Families, but should run through the very heart of our internal workforce. No matter what business strategy deck we whip up to implement with our team, success is going to be significantly hampered by those executing the plan if the culture doesn’t support it.

From tiny seeds grow mighty trees (or Pods in our case)
Just like gardening, if you feed your plants, water them regularly and provide sunlight the likelihood is that you’ll be rewarded with beautiful blooms. This is the same when building a culture that represents those contributing to its growth. When thinking about building a culture our team feel aligned to, we look to our company mission:
‘To give all children the best start in life, regardless of background’
'And our vision to get there by supporting ‘learning through play every day’
Every member of our team believes wholeheartedly in this statement and we constantly use it to shape product development decisions, community engagement and business goals. Having a clear purpose to motivate your workforce is pretty magical. It creates fire in our bellies that enables us to not only execute on defined outputs but also support one another in the process.

Once the culture and value pillars are decided on and key ingredients to cook up a winning formula are identified — it’s time to develop the vision. The vision doesn’t have to exist on a slide deck that is looked at once and then filed away in your Google drive, get creative and think outside the box. Displaying the vision for all to see is a great reminder that we’re all pulling together in the same direction. Using colour, imagery, keywords and phrases is a great way to bring the vision to life!
Developing culture is so much more than having a set of values and a vision. Living, breathing and sharing that culture is vital. It becomes part of everything we do and helps to guide us when making decisions. Live it, breathe it and promote it.
Share your culture vision with the external Community — promoting what’s important internally is also relevant for those who interact with the product every day. It’s a window into what matters to the brand.
Building a strong Community, culture and values is a key part of organisational development and change. It is important to remember that this is a very important part, but it’s not the only part to consider.
